Work placements
At Alliance MBS we want to help you achieve your ambitions by giving you the skills to stand out in today’s competitive market and doing a work placement as part of your studies will help you do just that.
A degree is not always enough when you are competing in the job market and work experience is what will set you apart from other candidates after you graduate.
Opting to do a work placement will not only provide you with many benefits and skills that graduate employers look for but will also give you an insight into your chosen career path.
If you are a second year student on the placement programme please visit the Alliance MBS Industrial Placement Community on Canvas where you will find plenty of useful information to help you through the application process.
The community can be found under My Communities.
The importance of employability skills is now greater than ever in the current economic climate.

Placement Buddy Scheme
We’re proud to launch our new Placement Buddy Scheme, designed to support students who are considering a placement as part of their degree, or are already in the process of applying!
This scheme connects you with a group of final-year students who completed their placements during the 2024–25 academic year. They’ve navigated the ups and downs of applications, interviews, assessment centres, and life on placement, and now they’re here to share their insights with you.
Why connect with a Placement Buddy?
Sometimes, the most helpful advice comes from someone who’s “been there, done that.” Whether you’re wondering where to apply, how to craft a standout CV, what assessment centres are really like, or just want to hear what a placement year feels like, your Buddy can help.
This isn’t a formal mentoring programme. It’s a friendly, informal way to learn from someone who’s walked the path you’re about to take.
If you're a second year student and currently busy with applications, this scheme is especially for you. Placement Buddies can offer practical, timely advice, from how to tailor your CV and cover letter, to preparing for interviews and assessment centres. They’ve been through the process recently and know what works. A quick chat could help you refine your strategy, boost your confidence, and avoid common mistakes.
If you're a first year student and have only just started thinking about doing a placement in future or wondering what you can do now to boost your chances, this scheme is for you too! It’s never too early to learn from those who’ve gone before you. A quick chat with a Placement Buddy can give you valuable insights into what steps to take early on, what experiences to look out for, and how to set yourself up for success.
How does it work?
- Browse the list of Placement Buddies
- Reach out to someone whose experience interests you
- Drop them a message, grab a coffee, and chat about whatever you’d like to know!
Whether you’re applying to the same company or sector, or just want someone to talk things through with, this is your chance to get real, honest advice from fellow students. We hope you find this scheme helpful and inspiring. Happy connecting!
